Times Magazine's top 100 ppl

I am so touched that xinyi has been waiting for my monday post, but I wasn't free on Monday... (what was I doing I can't remember), and the creative inspirational juices did not come to me this week so I skipped it. Anyway

I subscribe to the times magazine. And in their 2nd of May magazine, they listed and wrote down on 100 of the world's most influential people. I was reading it through the night yesterday (spent 30 min and slept 30 min later than what I'm supposed to be, so you see how interesting it was). It was a really interesting read. I mean, first time I wasn't bored with American politics and the revolution and Japan's crisis and all those American politician's view on all these things. It was a really fun and new read.

Anyway, I want to share part of the article with you. You know, so you guys get some general knowledge. After all, general knowledge around the world is good for you, it's not good to be stuck in these general elections :D

So, I will pick out some of the most interesting parts of the article. (in order of appearances)

1.Peter Vesterbacka, the Unleasher of Angry Birds.
Quote from another random famous person 'I have three stars on every level. It's sort of disgusting how much I play the game. It's not, Oh, what level am I on? It's, Do I need therapy to break myself from playing Agry Birds?'
The Peter guy developed the game Angry Birds, and it has been downloaded 100 million times around the world.

Is the game really that nice? O.o Even John Lee likes it so much. Weird.

2.Amy Chua, Tiger mom, burning bright and taking the heat.
You can laugh when you see the picture. It's so funny! The picture is like she's standing next to two tigers, in front of a bright pink cupboard, with lots of medals in the ground. She's giving this really cute look, you know, the look where she tries to look fierce but look cute instead! So cute! :D If you want I can bring the magazine for you to see her cute face.

Anyway, the article is written by the chief operating officer of Facebook. He wrote that the excerpt taken from wall street journal (the one where we did our SRQ on) is inaccurate in showing her full parenting skills. The entire book is actually about how she tried to adapt slowly to her daughters character and personality, and how her parenting had to evolve. So it's a really personal and experience-filled book about parenting.

And the person ends with a 'And by the way, I've met her daughters. They are both phenomenal'.

Wow.

3. Kim Clijsters, Balancing sport motherhood and victory with grace
I don't know if you know her, but I do. She's a tennis player. She retired for a while to give birth, and when she came back after giving birth, she immediately won two gold medals in a row. Now she's the No.1 player in the world.
Though she injured her ankle while dancing at a wedding. Quote "On the bright side, she's offering yet another lesson to fans: you should dance, but when you do, dance carefully." LOL

4. Michelle Obama, she moves us in the right direction
Man I love Michelle Obama. I think she's awesome. This article is mainly about her and her program to fight obesity. And the picture is shown her running around the field in front of the white house with a bunch of kids. Though she seems weirdly childish. Oh well. I love her.

5. JUSTIN BIEBER, the crown prince of pop
Oh my god, I feel so happy. Micheal Jackson is the King of pop, Britney Speares is the princess of pop, and JB is the prince of pop! (they are all my favourites of the favourites!)

Quote 'from the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have'. HAHAHA wonderful.

The picture of him is so BIG and so cool (but it's not like a poster, it's like a cool impromptu picture you know.)

Quote ending of the article 'And you know what? Stay tuned, because his story will get even better'

Yes, I am staying tune, Justin. I'm waiting patiently :D

6. Prince William and Kate Middleton, A fairy tale for the modern era
To quote Prince Harry: "it's not just a normal wedding" Well, obviously.

But the article is short and is squeezed to one side ): furthermore there is no big picture of them. So too bad.

7. Hillary Clinton, A diplomat abroad -- and at home
Her picture in the article is like sooo big!! (though not as big as JB's ) And you can like see all her wrinkles...
Well if you don't know her, she's the Secretary of State, and I think she handles foreign affair really well. I mean, it's all because of her that America and all the other countries are so well linked now.
Quote ' Barack Obama's strongest rival in 2008 has become one of the most effective and loyal supporters in an Administration that has been notably cohesive on foreign policy." Man isn't she just great?

8. Oprah Winfrey, The queen of daytime, now 24/7
Well, you should know Oprah really well. I just think that she's like dam rich. Grr jealous...
I like Ellen more hmph!
Anyway, quote "I have often said that if women rules the world for the next 100 years, we'd all be better off. I have a feeling that with the possibilities at Oprah's fingertips, we may be one step closer." I don't know but, I totally agree with the first sentence yozz!

9. Rain, the people's choice
Yo! This is the only kpop person yoz! I think he must be like really popular. Which is true though. I heard about him in primary school already, though until I haven't even heard any of his songs before.
Anyway, quote "The South Korean pop star turned actor Rain, 28, took the top spot in the TIME 100 reader poll for the third year, trouncing competitors from Barack Obama to Lady Gaga. That's pretty impressive online power for a guy whose main claim to Western fame is a role in the 2009 film ninja assassin"

Pretty cool, eh? That's the power of kpop fan for you! :D And I really want to watch ninja assassin. :D Really!

10. John Lasseter, the heart and soul of pixar
I love the picutre in the article. It's this guy sitting in the middle of statues of the incredibles, cars, monsters inc, alien, toy story...

WOW! I'm a huge fan of pixar. Like really. I love the incredibles. Still remember in primary school I watched it 7 times a day. Watched it over and over again. I don't know why, even now, it doesn't become sick. The whole story line is just too awesome to be watched, my heart will still beat faster at the exciting parts, my heart would still leapt for joy at the end. It's just a wonderful movie. Too wonderful! :DD

11. Chris Colfer, For his pitch-perfect portrayal of a gay teen
In case you don't know, he's an actor in glee. You should know glee right. And he acts as the gay person in glee.
And he kissed a guy in the show. I am so impressed. (Of course squeaking pervertedly inside), but you know he's not gay in real life, but he was willing to sacrifice himself and kiss a guy for his fans, for the show, for me (or to be more specific, for ppl like me)

Anyway, the person is praised for portraying his character so wonderfully. Other than the kissing part ahem, his acting is really good. Really good. His character is this bullied gay guy, and he portrayed it perfectly. Maybe if you ever started watching glee (I don't mind recommending a few episodes), you would agree too.

12. Bruno Mars, the musician with everything
Yes, I love Bruno Mars. He can sing, play the piano, and guitar. He has a musicality, a presence in his voice that I've never heard from anyone else. he has a great sense of humour. His performance is exactly like the way he recorded. He can write songs (he wrote the award winning f**k you). And when he recorded this hit song, Nothin' On You, he only needed two sessions. I don't know but, I think that's a wonderful achievement.
I love his voice. I love his songs. :D and he is part of my list that will be appearing in my tumbler.

13. Barack Obama, charting a future with fewer illusions
Surprisingly the Obama picture of the article is like small, and dark, and it's taken at night when he's sitting at a car. You know, what do you call it, the long, black glamorous car.
And the article is about how everything he's trying to do is to break Americans out of their illusion, which is the reason why some Americans hate him. But that's actually a good thing you know. Better break out of illusion that having someone disillusioning you, right? Okay I'm not making sense.

Anyway I like Obama :D I think he's really good. :D

-------

Okay end. That's all. 13 articles out of 100. I bet the rest of the people you have no idea who they are. =.= (do you know Ai Weiwei? Do you know David Cameron? I can let you read about them if you want)

Anyway, it was quite interesting reading up on all those random people that is the most influential in the world. Times is quite global actually. I bet when the general elections is over and PAP is kicked out of the government, then Singapore would definitely have an article on it. :D but I doubt so.
