Thursday, January 13, 2011 @ 9:56 PM This is a very shocking piece of news... A Japanese comic series belittling and attacking Korean idol singers has been circulating on the web and recently caught the attention of Korean fans. Titled “The Investigation of the Fabricated Hallyu Boom,” the comic was first uploaded on Japanese web boards and images can still be found on Yahoo! Japan and other portal sites. The comic begins with a former Korean idol, who now works as a hostess, meeting with her client and a reporter in order to tell the ‘truth’ about the lives of Korean idol stars. She claims that SNSD and KARA, who are both ‘trending stars’ of Japan, all perform sexual favors, and that the Korean government invests $150 million USD into a Japanese entertainment agency that ‘fabricates’ the Hallyu wave. Using the case of SNSD’s airport entrance in Japan, she claims that the government lied about 800 fans waiting to greet them and that there were actually only 100 people consisting of employees from a company that fabricates the Hallyu wave. The comic features other scenes such as KARA dancing their famous ‘butt dance’ naked, and even mentions actress Jang Ja Yeon, who committed suicide in 2009 due to pressures to provide sexual favors and her slave contract with her agency. The comic claims, “Providing sexual favors in the Korean entertainment industry is something that is definite. This comic was based off of investigations,” further enraging fans. Fans have found that the comic is a part of a literary coterie magazine created for and by ‘otakus’ of a particular fetish. Regarding the controversy, officials of SM Entertainment and DSP Media revealed, “We will be prioritizing our understanding of the issue first, and will be paying close attention to the case.” This is seriously... a very shocking piece of news... HOW CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE? My most beloved, most respected, favourite, most idolised manga, my hobby, my life, the one and only thing which I would be willing to dedicate my time to, to especially write fanfictions, to print out pictures, to make it all into a scrapbook, to save up my money just to buy one volume of manga... AND THIS IS WHAT THE OUTCOME IS? How could you betray my trust, manga? HOW COULD YOU? Anyway, looking at the way the manga is drawn, I doubt that it could be one of my favourite mangakas, so it's not really a big problem. It's probably a stupid idiotic person that absolutely hates how the fame of Korean greater than the fame of Japanese (which I sometimes feel too). But that doesn't mean you could do something like that? This is so despicable! Writing stories like that, it definitely cannot be true, there's no way it could be true! Even if it is true, you shouldn't draw it in such an insulting way, as if the Kpop people are laughing stock. I do not understand why Kpop is getting more popular, but that doesn't mean I would do something like that to disgrace them, right? I mean, what did they do to you, why do you have to do such things to them? We should never, never, make fun of other people, and other countries' culture (pop culture in this case). But I should totally scold Japan right now. All my experiences tell me that Japan is quite self-centred. Everything they do, everything, is revolved around them. Like the 'Sinking of Japan', and and and... I don't know, just everything they do is about them. Even if there are one or two good ones about other countries, they are seldom famous. But this doesn't mean you can go around writing disgusting stuff like that to insult the other country that has gotten more fame than you! It's true before the Hallyu wave, Japan was the most famous country, with their mangas and Jpop. BUT STILL! Okay, I must say I am very very disappointed at the manga industry now. How can they publish this kind of thing? Unless the Japanese government (or Korean) do something about it, I will never ever let it go. You have disappointed me, manga.... Anyway, we should never have hasty generalisation! One manga is like that doesn't mean all mangas are! :D This is probably one manga you should never ever read in your life. But other mangas are really nice too! So don't let this one stupid manga bring your impression down! xD I'll probably start introducing some really awesome mangas over here or something :D Labels: koreanpop, liwei, mangasandanimes
